Boys golf

In a Section 4 match Aug. 28, Fox Chapel improved to 2-0 in the section and 4-0 overall with a 186-248 win over Gateway. Grant Thiele paced the Foxes with a 35, followed by Scott Bitar at 37, Andrew Friend, Aidan Oehrle and Amani Dambrosio all at 38 and Gregor Meyer with a 39.

The Sewickley Invitational was held Aug. 29, and Fox Chapel edged Sewickley Academy, 373-374 to win. Bitar led the Foxes with a 71. Friend shot 73, followed by Meyer and Thiele at 76.

Girls’ Tennis

Fox Chapel’s girls tennis team scored a 5-0 win over Plum on Oct. 28. Amanda Nord, Charlotte James and Kristen Friday won in singles while, in doubles, Molly Wiese/Emily Fera and Amanda Schilcher/Molly Dean posted wins.

The Foxes beat Gateway, 5-0, on Aug. 30, with Nord, James and Friday winning in singles. In doubles, Dean/Fera and Schilcher/Abbe Cohen earned wins. They improved to 7-0 with a 3-2 win over Peters Township on Friday, as Nord, James and Friday won singles matches.

Football

Visiting West Allegheny cruised to a 27-0 first-half lead en route to a 41-20 win over Fox Chapel on Friday night. Nick Gizzo was a bright spot for the Foxes as he ran for a pair of 7-yard TDs and threw a 37-yard scoring pass to Cole Waxter. Andrew Jeffrey converted two PATs.

The Foxes, now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the WPIAL Class 5A Allegheny Nine Conference, will travel to Woodland Hills on Friday night. Woodland Hills (1-1) beat Baldwin, 40-6, on Friday.

• Despite a huge game from quarterback Skyy Moore, Shady Side Academy fell in its home opener to Seton LaSalle, 41-20. The Rebels scored 21 points in the second quarter to open up a 28-14 halftime lead.

Moore finished with 224 rushing yards and scored on 82-, 60- and 4-yard runs. He also passed for 106 yards on seven completions. The Indians (0-1) will play at Burrell on Friday. The Bucs (1-1) lost to Hopewell, 12-6, in Week 1.
