Girls soccer

Fox Chapel girls soccer opened the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs Oct. 25 with a 3-1 win over North Hills. Deanna DeBaldo scored twice, and Dixon Veltri also scored. Kate Secko had three saves. The Foxes then defeated Pine-Richland, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

Field hockey

The WPIAL Class AAA field hockey semifinals were Oct. 26, and Fox Chapel earned a spot in the title game with a 3-0 win over North Allegheny. Katie McIlroy scored a pair of goals, and Paige Ryan also scored. Marissa Hardiman made one save in goal.

Girls tennis

Fox Chapel began the PIAA Class AAA girls tennis playoffs with a 5-0 win over Erie McDowell on Oct. 25.

Amanda Nord, Charlotte James and Kristen Friday all had straight-set wins in singles. Molly Wiese and Moira McCormick, along with Morgann Green and Tanvi Merengenti, had straight-set wins in doubles.

The win sent the Foxes to Hershey on Friday for a quarterfinal match against Manheim Township, and they saw their title hopes derailed with a 3-2 loss. Nord and James picked up wins in singles, as the Foxes finished with a 15-5 record.

Girls volleyball

Fox Chapel girls volleyball traveled to Seneca Valley on Oct. 26 for a WPIAL Class AAAA first-round match. The Foxes fell 3-0. Shannon Fisher and Katie Kenney had three kills each. Desirae Buccigrossi had 13 digs, and Katie Kenney had five blocks.

Cross country

The WPIAL Class AAA cross country championships were held at Cooper’s Lake Campground on Oct. 27. The Fox Chapel girls finished second in the team standings.

“We had four girls in the top 20,” FC coach Tom Moul said. “This is the first time ever that the girls team has qualified for the state meet.”

Annika Urban finished ninth, followed by Sarena Seeger in 10th, freshman Brooke Krally in 13th and Caelan Miller in 18th. Other team members who will be heading to Hershey are Izzy Doerr, Anna Folkerts, Megan Stafford and Grace Sisson.

The boys finished eighth out of 31 teams with Adam Cook taking 23rd place and Christian Fitch finishing in 26th place. They qualified for states.
