The Fox Chapel football team faced a formidable foe in Friday night’s season opener as it hosted Mt. Lebanon, which earned a 44-13 victory.

By the end of the first quarter, Mt. Lebanon showed why it is rated highly in Class 6A.

David Harvey, who ended up with 168 yards rushing, scored on a 63-yard run in the first quarter. That was quickly followed by a 29-yard field goal and a 22-yard touchdown on a fumble recovery, and it was 17-0 at the end of the first quarter. The lead increased to 27-0 at the half and by the end of the third quarter, it was 41-6. Micah Morris got the Foxes on the board with a 6-yard run and Nick Gizzo added a 35-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter. Jerett Zaleski converted the point after.

The Foxes (0-1) will travel to West Allegheny on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Girls tennis

The Fox Chapel girls tennis team opened its season with a 3-2 win over Pine-Richland on Aug. 22. Amanda Nord, Charlotte James and Kristen Friday posted wins in singles. They upped their record to 2-0 on Aug. 24 with a 5-0 whitewash of Allderdice. Nord, James and Friday all posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles while the doubles tandems of Molly Weise/Margaux Essey and Morgann Green/Moira McCormick also recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins.

The Foxes (2-1) suffered their first loss Aug. 25 as Upper St. Clair prevailed 3-2. James and Friday won in singles.

Boys golf

The Fox Chapel boys golf team posted a 193-251 win over Plum on Aug. 23 in Section 4-AAA play. FC’s Grant Thiele was the medalist with a 35. The Foxes beat Penn Hills, 199-253, on Aug. 25 as Anthony Cordaro shot a 36.

Girls golf

 In Section 4-AAA play on Aug. 25, Hannah Conroy shot a 41 to lead Fox Chapel to a 193-236 win over Shaler.
