This is the first in a series of profiles on the 2018 inductees into the Fox Chapel Sports Hall of Fame. The banquet will be held at the Harmar House on June 2. For more information, contact [email protected].

Nick Rivett was one of the top volleyball players in the state during his time at Fox Chapel from 2003-06.

He earned four varsity letters and was captain of the team in ’05 and ’06. In ’04, he was named third-team All-WPIAL and was selected to the first team in ’05 and ’06. He also made first-team all-state in both years. In 2006, he was chosen as MVP for the WPIAL and PIAA.

The Foxes won the section in ’05 and ’06 and finished third in the WPIAL in ’05 before claiming the championship in ’06. They went on to finish as PIAA runners-up that year.

Rivett then moved on to St. Francis (Pa.), where he continued his run of success. He was a four-year starter and captain in ’09 and ’10. He was selected to the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association first team in ’09 and second team in ’08 and ’10.

St. Francis was nationally ranked in three of his four years along with making the playoffs all four years, and he ranks third on their career list in aces and digs and second in kills and total attacks.

He said he was taken aback by his selection to the hall of fame.

“I was absolutely surprised and honored. It brought back memories of our times playing in high school. We had a group of guys that were extremely competitive and had many different personalities.”

His most memorable moment occurred in 2006.

“We won the WPIAL championship in front of 2,000 spectators, and most of them were from Fox Chapel. I remember our student section rushing the court once match point hit the ground.”

Rivett married his high school sweetheart and biggest volleyball fan, Chelsie Mitchell, in 2013.

They reside in Richland Township, and Rivett is employed by Stover & Company, a bakery supply distributor. He is expecting a large cheering section at the banquet.
