Girls Soccer Set for Success

Coach Peter Torres begins his second season as coach of the Fox Chapel girls soccer team and is hoping for more of the same success from his first year.

The team compiled an overall record of 15-3-2 and a section record of 11-1-2. After defeating Pine-Richland in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs, the Foxes fell to eventual WPIAL champion Seneca Valley.

“We lost a tremendous group of seniors that were leaders on and off the field,” he said. “Genna Kasian was an important starter whose position is now up for grabs. Several girls are fighting for the limited positions on the varsity starting lineup.”

The Foxes will have 10 starters returning, including senior Taylor Cohen, an All-WPIAL selection.

“Our midfield returns four out of five players — juniors Maia Russo (all-section), Deena DeBaldo (All-WPIAL), Dixon Veltri and sophomore Caelan Miller (all-section),” Torres said. “Our defense also returns intact with senior Alexis Schwartz, juniors Bryanna Urso, Harper Bennett, who started the last few games of the season after an injury, Annamarie Alfery and sophomore Katie Livingston. We return Elayna Burdelski as goalkeeper.”
